SoundCloud’s new sonic definition

Social sound platform SoundCloud has become one of the web’s most interesting success stories. In five years, the site has moved from being a geeky publishing platform for electronic music to one that encompasses voice, podcasts and soundscapes alongside music – with 13 million users worldwide.

Techcityinsider.net caught up with SoundCloud’s co-founder Eric Wahlforss to hear about where the idea for the audio sharing site came from, how it has developed into a powerful collaborative community, and what it plans for the future. Berlin-based Wahlforss tells us how, and why, SoundCloud has broadened its definitions of sound to become a global sound resource. He talks about growth, funding, copyright – and tapping the true potential of the mobile microphone.

Techcityinsider.net will be using SoundCloud to host an ongoing series of audio interviews…so talking to Eric is a fine place to start! Interview by Julian Blake.
